Thumbnail Control

Ed Nacional Apr 06, 2012 10:23AM EDT

I would love the feature to control the size of a thumbnail. Would be nice in the sidebar but I'm mainly talking about when you launch it in the full page. I have a few larger collections and it would be nice to scale down so you can see all of them and easily sort. Or scale up to get a bit of closer look without having to click through. I'm thinking a simple slider: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2378464/Screenshots/lol1c5expymn.png

Another related request/suggestion Maybe an option to show the thumbnails not cropped into squares. Might be nice to have the choice to crop or to display save width thumbnails with varied heights. Lookwork does a good job of this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2378464/Screenshots/i4-xh0qkiryy.png

I know these kinds of thumbnail things are personal preferences per person so I'm just suggesting but not trying to push my personal preference too much. Both these ideas are things that users might play with until they find their sweet spot so it wouldn't have to be up front and center all the time. I love how simple Dropmark is so I don't want to try to overcomplicate it and take away from the vision and simplicity.

Thanks!

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the feedback! This is something we've been thinking about for a while now. I can see us releasing thumbnail cropping/sizing options in the future, but we have a few other things to tackle first.

Since you asked, do you see these thumbnail option as a personal setting, or would you want your collaborators/viewers to see your thumbnail settings too? Global, or collection-based?

Thanks,

Skylar

Yeah, not the most pressing feature but would love to see it some day.

Hmm good questions, super tough call. I can see there being a situation where you would like to control how the viewer sees the collection. If it were something you were presenting to a client might be nice to have complete control of how they see that. A collaborative collection might be different, it could turn into a battle of preferences in that case. One user could like them larger but every time you open it up your collaborator who likes to view them small would switch it back. Could get annoying.

I think it would make sense to have the settings globally change so if you found your sweet spot of how you like it you could just have it stay put as is. Alternatively that goes against my previously point about having control over how your viewer sees the collection. Maybe global is default and you can somehow choose per collection if you want to break from that global setting so you can control how your viewer sees it?

I know there is more situations that the client/viewer I used for the example but hope that helps. Thanks for hearing me out

Ed, I agree 100%!

I think it could be a global preference with an overrides per collection (if designated).
