Scaling and centering

safeasmilk Feb 22, 2012 03:35PM EST

Hi. Loving the app. It would be great to turn off the scaling and centering. I uploaded 3 web mockups and because of the above the background patterns in my design looked a little screwy. Not sure if this is possible. It'd be nice for the mock up to sit in the window positioned top and center at full original size. Cheers

Thanks for the feedback, this is something we have thought a lot about.

Since, uploaded images could be anything from a 10 megapixel photograph (which you'd want scaled) and a 1200px wide website mockup (which you would not want scaled), we came up with a solution to serve both uses.

In either case, images will scale to fit the browser window, but clicking the image will zoom in to reveal the full size.

As long as your web comp is 1600px wide or less (any height is fine) or is less than 500kb, you should see the full version and be able to scroll inside the browser as expected.

Any images larger than 1600px wide are resized to save on bandwidth for the user, but we always store a copy of the original which you can view or download by clicking the action button at the top of the screen.

As a compromise, we're thinking of saving your initial viewing preference (zoomed in / zoomed out) in a browser cookie once clicked.

How does that sound?

Thanks,

Skylar

I'd second the request for some manual scaling/sizing options. I'm using the Pro version and plan on using it occasionally for video reviews. Those videos are low-res and look bad if scaled up to the size of the browser window.

Thanks for your comments, we love to hear them.

Out of curiosity, what file format are your video uploads?

Mostly QuickTime (H.264).

Thought I'd jump in here and make another suggestion! Like Alex, I also use H.264's for video reviews. (Through Dropbox at the moment) So, that feature would be great. Apart from that, it'd be nice to have Vimeo and YouTube drops at their standard 640 x 360 as an option. I ask because Vimeo doesn't allow HD embeds for non-pro users. Those videos in particular look bad in fullscreen.

Just signed up. Great work, by the way. Very solid all around.

But I have a 1350px x 1450px jpeg, 490kb, which does not load the 100% view in Safari.

Welcome Michael! Images will scale to fit your browser, but you can click to zoom 100%. Give that a shot.

Me again. Have there been any thoughts re: video scaling? As mentioned, (smaller size) videos look bad when blown-up to full screen, as it's done in Dropmark.

Also, making video downloads just a tad easier would be great. Clients just to dig the play-video-then-right-click-on-arrow-button thing.

Cheers.

There is likely some overlap with what Dropmark is offering, but if you are finding that dropmark isn't giving all of the comp preview function, I've been very happy with InVision as a prototype presentation tool.

Ideal? Well.. Ideal for me would be to have all of my inspiration and example preamble set up in a dropmark presentation with the last slide set to display/link-to an InVision project, which is much better for interactive web preview type client conversations.

Let me know how this works. I like that there are so many kick-butt tools like this out there. They are all stronger when they integrate well, but don't fall into the trap of trying to do it all.
